Patchwork Santa Ana – Spring 2018

Back in May, I vended at my third Patchwork show. The first one was sort of a disaster. The weather was terrible, the attendance was terrible, and I was horribly sunburned due to a faulty sun-umbrella. The second one was a lot better. I broke even and learned a lot.

This third one was great. I was actually in a new location, so a fairly low traffic area, but still managed to walk away ahead. Which is sort of a first for my shows. Plus, I sold a few items I wasn’t expecting to, so that was pretty amazing. I also sold out completely of my ice cream cones, so they are next on the list of things I should work on before the fall/winter show after Thanksgiving.

The festival was really expanded this year, it even included a fashion show put on by student designers at the local college.

I am still trying to figure out the perfect booth layout, as I sell such a huge variety of products that I have no idea how best to display a little of everything! Ideas and suggestions are totally desired. 🙂

February Review

logo

February was about on par for what I expect from February. It was very, very slow.

Of course, just because sales were slow doesn’t mean life was! We are still in the process of buying a home, I am taking 18 credit hours, I am still working full time, and we just began the process of becoming approved for foster / adoption. So, slow worked this month because I definitely didn’t have time for insane.

I worked on a couple of gifts and that is really all I did this month. The shop is at an interesting state right now. Most of my listings are getting ready to expire, so I am at an junction and am deciding which road to take.
Part of me wants to let the listings expire and leave them that way until I have time to properly photograph and re-write the descriptions for each item. But man does that seem like a long time. And I definitely can’t sell things that aren’t list. So, it is something I am still thinking about, and I really don’t know which way I am leaning just yet.

Supersize That Horsie

Right now, micro-amigurumi is a huge thing. People make these ridiculously small amigurumi collectables. They are gorgeous and just ooze talent. However, my fingers are not capable of that, nor my eyesight nor patience. So, I tend to go a different route. First there was Cutie Pie, then a few middle sized elephants. Well, while trying to think of gifts for my wonderful niece for her birthday, I decided to try super-sizing the horse pattern I use.

The only changes I made were to use an N hook and bernat blanket yarn (vice a G hook and a worsted weight yarn). I made this gorgeous blue horse, who was lovingly named Precious, and then I decided to do the full pattern and make a unicorn.  Oh, and I also added safety eyes, instead of crocheting the eyes!

My niece is turning 7 next month, and she is having a fabulous unicorn party. So, an oversized unicorn seemed to fit the bill.

The key to these horses is to ensure the legs are SUPER stuffed. This will allow the horse to actually stand. But, if you are looking for a softer, more squishy friend, that is a great plan too, just realize it will be too heavy to stand on it’s own.

Anyway, one baby went to her new home and is loved. The other baby will be going shortly, and I am super excited for it!

And these are my hot new requests from all the fabulous kids (and a few adults) in my life.

May

May should make for an interesting month. Personally, I have a lot to handle this month. However, I am only out of town for one weekend, so it should be more feasible to get some serious crocheting done. We shall see.

April

April is actually looking to be a lot of fun for me. I am really digging everything I scheduled this month, and that makes it much easier to get back into the swing of working. I am still trying to work on skirts and dresses as I have a chance, plus I have a couple of baby gifts that I need to knock out of the park this month…but, I think I will be okay.

March Review

logo

Shop-wise, March was better than February, but still not as good as last year.  However, I spent most of the month with the ship in ready to ship only, and I was doing very little advertising. However, about a week before the month ended, I started editing and adjusting listings, and getting some MTO items back out there. I immediately started garnering sales again, so I suppose that was the issue all along.

Blog-wise, I bit the big one in March. I only posted twice. The biggest issue was just that I wasn’t creating, and the few things I did create, I didn’t photograph! So, there as nothing to blog!

March Plan

Hello March

logo

March is back to the real work. I have a few skirts I need to finish for St Patrick’s Day, please I have a pretty full month with my crochet schedule. Add in several doctor’s appointments, a trip to Phoenix, and a visit from my best friend, well, it could definitely get a little crazy in my house.

But, we shall see how it all goes! March will see the shop staying on vacation mode, and hopefully tearing through some of this yarn I just bought. 😀
