July

logo

July has already been a crazy, disappointing month for my business-wise. But, personally, it has been great. The first week, I was in Italy. The second week, I was sick as a dog, so I didn’t do much. The third week has consisted of getting registered and set to start college in the fall. So, this entire thing is sort of back burner.

I am prepping for the only festival I plan on doing this year, which means straying from this path, as it is something I hadn’t intended on doing, so I am trying to tailor my product. I do need to try and make a few Halloween photoprops, as it is my primary business income. But, I am hoping that what I am planning for the festival goes over well.

June Review

logo

June was a very busy month. As evidenced by the fact that it has been over a month since I’ve blogged, and that I am not closing June out until nearly the end of July. And July was just as busy, so no high hopes there.

It is pretty safe to say that I have given up on my plan for the year. I have fallen so far behind, and I have so much else going on, there isn’t time for it.

I have changed directions with product for a brief moment in time while prepping for the one and only festival I plan to do this year. And, unfortunately, it looks like I will be giving up my major money maker, as I have not had time to sufficiently prep for Halloween this year, as I have in previous years. Plus, I am officially a full time college student again, and still working a full time job. So, being that this business wasn’t exactly raking in the cash to support my family, it is sadly going to sit on the back-burner, smoldering.

June Plan

May 29 – Halloween Props
Nope

Jun 5 – Amigurumi
Nope. Though, I did have a couple of orders that were amigurumi…does that count?

Jun 12 – Photo Props
Not for the shop, but I did make a really cool princess blanket for my niece, and a really bad airplane blanket for my nephew. Oh, and I also made a photo prop for a customer order. Does that count?

Jun 19 – Christmas Props
Nope. I was scrambling to finish an airplane.

Jun 26 – Hats
Nope. I actually didn’t crochet at all while I was in Europe. Except for maybe like two hours on the plane.

10,955 yards total (YIKES!!)

Snow White C2C Graphgan

So, a while back, I started writing up C2C color changes for a ton of different graphgans. I didn’t end up posting very many of them, I did do a series of the princesses in small granny square sizes, but these are a little different.

Unfortunately, I saved them as PDFs and don’t have the software to edit PDFs, so that I can easily copy/paste the text here…and I am far too lazy to retype it out, it was a lot of work! So, you get a scanned copy as a photograph. If you click on the photograph, it will enlarge. I recommend printing them, as I prefer to do C2C by marking off the rows as I go. Remember, start on the bottom right hand size.

I like to use worsted weight yarn and a J hook.

But, June should be a busy, busy month. I am getting close to hard-core Halloween season, so my focus is shifting some, plus needing to work on my weekly stuff. I have already had a couple of orders, so that is keeping me busy, plus, I am out of the country for a week. So, here’s to hoping I can handle everything and not lose my mind!

Sock Monkey Blanket

Please excuse the crummy pictures, I promise that I am in the process of getting some better ones. But, this guy right here, my super adorable sock monkey blanket, is actually one of my favorite early pieces, especially of my own designs. Now, I say my own design, but there is obviously nothing super spectacular or difficult about this guy was made. A circle, a semi circle, and two 3/4 circles. Then add some eyes, a nose, and a smile. Really, really simple and quick to work up.

No, what I love about this guy is actually the yarn. This guy is made of a nylon yarn, so he is actually too warm and heavy to be used casually as a blanket, But, the softness, the texture, it is perfect for a tummy time mat or to lay on top of in general. I used Lion Brand Quick & Cozy yarn. And I have a feeling it will be discontinued soon, as I don’t see much of it on the website anymore. But man oh man, do I love that stuff.

I ordered it just on a whim one day while ordering an obscene amount of yarn from the LB clearance section. I just wanted to try all sorts of different textures, thicknesses, and fibers in general. It took me forever to decide what to make with this, because it is just so different from my other yarns. If you have never worked with a nylon yarn, touch some, your life will suddenly make sense. Well, not really, because it is amazing, but you can’t put it in the washer/dryer which makes it a pain in the rump too.

Anyway, I love this guy. He is one of my absolute favorites because I just like to touch him. (It’s a little inappropriate, ehh? Touching my monkey. Teehee!)
