I’ve decided that next year, I am going to do things a little bit differently. Instead of doing monthly goals, I am going to set aside weeks to work on certain things. I plan on keeping the shop on finished items only for a little bit, probably through February. It is just less stressful and is giving me the time that I need to work on some larger orders.

This will also give me a chance to really work on creating new product, preparing for shows, and getting a new website launched and available.

The general gist of it is to dedicate each week to a certain type of product, obviously allowing for time to complete orders as well. Then, if I miss a week, I miss a week, and whatever. That product can wait until a free week or get scratched completely. I am going through and trying to figure out the best use of 52 weeks, that is the tough part!

Additionally, I am stealing a great idea from a fellow blogger. She tracks the yardage of yarn knitted vs yardage of yarn bought each month. I need to do that. I definitely need to do that…because the amount of yarn I have in my office is absolutely ridiculous. And I really need to work on slimming down my stash. For both space and financial needs. 🙂

So, as we enter 2017, I am hoping to see some changes, hoping to find a better way, and plan on just taking the bull by the horns and seeing what happens. 🙂

October Wrap Up

October was not quite as busy as I had expected. I raised the price on my candy corns, and I think that actually tanked my sales. Which is good and bad, I wasn’t prepared for a ton of sales, so at least I wasn’t behind. And, I now know the price threshold for that product.

I had 44 sales for 48 items, so pretty great, but only made about 3/4 of what I did last year…

As far as my goals for October,

  • Stuff I need to make
    • 1 Halloween amigurumi (Done, I made an awesome bat!)

  • Stuff I need to finish:
    • Candy corns (Done!)

  • Stuff I  would like to make some progress on
    • Elephant pillows Christmas order (I am actually about halfway done with one)
    • The first doll in the new line (haha…but, I did start another new doll for another new line)
    • 1 kitty koi corner to corner blanket (sadly, my lowest priority) (nope)

  • Events I will be attending
    • None this month

Wedding Plans

So, I am completely torn with our wedding. We are getting married in Sept 2016, at Disneyland. More details on that to come after our appointment with the wedding planner in a couple of weeks. But, I am such a crafty, DIY type of person, and well, control freak, that I am at an impasse for the wedding plans.

There is a huge, huge, huge part of me that wants to make my own dress, and the flower girl dresses, and bridesmaids dresses…but then there is the other part of me that is absolutely in love with the Alfred Angelo dresses I found and wants everything to be princess perfect that day. I am considering making the flower girl dresses…it will save some money (which is sad, because materials are really, really not cheap!), and I think they would be neat and beautiful. The bridesmaids though, I am not sure I can do that to them. I have shown most of them the dress I have picked out, and they are in love with it….so I probably should stick to that, especially considering I am also in love with these dresses. And my dress…I found one I want to make, and it would be so pretty…but then I think back on the dress I have picked out…the dress that I realistically picked out when I was 6…and I know that there is no way I could give that up…it is one of the most important aspects of the wedding to me.

I am considering making all of the bouquets…but I am not sure on that one…none of my flowers have ever turned out to fancy and wonderful.

I am, however, making my own centerpieces and table gifts. I am really excited about it, though that is likely because I have just barely delved into the 250 gifts I need to make and god only knows how many centerpieces. I don’t know how the tables will be set up yet. I am sure by this time next year, I will be cursing myself for this idea. Since I have not fully finished any of the gifts yet, I will just tell you what they are, since I don’t want to steal the stock photos off of the patterns sites. Once I have at least one of each made, I will link a photo and the perfect place to find the pattern for you. 🙂

Our center pieces are just what you would imagine…I am making tiered wedding cakes and Disney couples. Now, the Disney plushes will be too big to stand on the cake, so they will stand next to the cake, but yea…Donald and Daisy, Mickey and Minnie, Wall-E and Eva, Lady and Tramp, Pluto and FiFi, Clarabelle and Horace…or maybe Clarabelle and Goofy…that sort of thing, the “non-human” couples.

The individual gifts are going to be smaller, simpler…as there are so many more that are required. I am making peas in a pod, lovebirds, that sort of stuff. I have a lot of different patterns for these, so I am hoping to be able to make a lot of unique gifts. 🙂

Basically, starting in June, this will be what my Sundays consist of…working on wedding favors. But, it is exciting and unique. 🙂 I can’t wait…and I really can’t wait to see how people decide who gets to take the center pieces home.
