May was actually a decent month. I got back on track with a lot of what I was making, I made a few sales, and I managed to take a lot of new product photos.

May Plan

May 1 – Charity
I made like 90% of a shawl. I ran out of yarn before I could finish it. But, I will finish it as soon as I get a spare moment. 🙂

May 8 – 4th of July Props
I made a super cute red, white, and blue photo prop. I actually just took photos of it over the weekend and will get it listed and blogged very shortly.

May 15 – Free Week
I started working on my lacey parasol. I go to about 70% complete.

May 22 – Pinup
I finished up my rockabilly doll, and am SO excited to be able to finally list her and blog about her! I also finished up my parasol!

April Review

logo

April was a really bad month, shop-wise, personally, the whole nine. Nothing really came to fruition. But, I suppose that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

April Plan

Mar 27 – Free Week
Did pretty much nothing. Made another fox rug for an employee whose wife is pregnant.

Apr 3 – Summer Props
I made a really cool strawberry photo prop…but no one knew what it was and everyone hated it…so yea…there’s that.

Apr 10 – WIPs
I worked on exactly 0 WIP products…and made an adult lap throw.

Apr 17 – Skull Shawls
I almost completed one….

Apr 24 – Halloween Props
I actually just finished my skull shawl. I should probably work on Halloween props, as they are my big seller, but I am short on the funds to buy the right yarn. :-:

Yarn Purchased in April

0 yards (amazing!!)

Yarn Crocheted in April

3,387 yards total

March Review

logo

Shop-wise, March was better than February, but still not as good as last year.  However, I spent most of the month with the ship in ready to ship only, and I was doing very little advertising. However, about a week before the month ended, I started editing and adjusting listings, and getting some MTO items back out there. I immediately started garnering sales again, so I suppose that was the issue all along.

Blog-wise, I bit the big one in March. I only posted twice. The biggest issue was just that I wasn’t creating, and the few things I did create, I didn’t photograph! So, there as nothing to blog!

March Plan

Feb 27 – Charity
I made an adult scarf, adult hat, baby hat, and a baby blanket!

Mar 6 – Halloween Props
I started making a spider prop, but didn’t finish

Mar 13 – Easter Amigurumi
I made a baby chick!

Mar 20 – Unicorns
I made a fun unicorn hat!

Mar 27 – Free Week
I did nothing because I have barely sat down!

Yarn Purchased in March

2,130 yards (I needed to for orders!)
2,130 yards of I Love This Yarn (purchased for the fox rug I am making a pregnant friend, and for bearded baby hat orders)

Yarn Crocheted in March

3,203 yards total
405 yards of Lion Brand Jiffy (unicorn hat)
2,548 yards of Red Heart Super Saver (charity)
350 yards of I Love This Yarn (beard hats)

February Review

logo

Shop-wise, February was not the best month. It’s actually my worst February since opening the shop, saleswise. However, I still have the shop in ready to ship only, and I am doing very little advertising.

I am going through some health things right now, and I just don’t have the energy or stability to focus on it all. So, I am taking some time to myself. I am working at my own pace, creating what I want, and not being totally stressed out about trying to push sales.

My husband and I had a long discussion and actually decided to forego the craft fairs this year, as it just isn’t worth it right now. We will pick it back up next year, when we can really focus again.

February Plan

Jan 30 – Valentines Props √√√

Feb 6 – Free Week √√√ (I made a fox rug! I also finished 3 Valentine’s skirts.)

Feb 13 – Free Week √√√ (I made a fireman costume!)

Feb 20 – Easter Props √√√ (I made a carrot / bunny prop!)

Feb 27 – Charity √√√ (Started working on this yesterday, and will continue throughout the week. I am currently focusing on scarves.)

Yarn Purchased in February

6,735 yards (I needed to use my super awesome JoAnn Fabrics coupon– $30 off $75! Plus, Bernat Blanket was on sale!)
1,775 yards of I Love This Yarn (purchased for the fox rug)
3,640 yards of Red Heart Super Saver (purchased for the charity scarves)
440 yards of Bernat Baby Blanket
880 yards of Bernat Blanket

Yarn Crocheted in February

2,894 yards total
50 yards of Lion Brand Jiffy
1,180 yards of Crafter’s Secret
564 yards of Red Heart Super Saver
1,100 yards of I Love This Yarn

January Review

logo

January was a pretty good month for the shop. Now, that majority of that was due to a large custom order I spent the entire month working on. But, it definitely made it worth it. The shawls turned out beautifully, and I cannot wait to see how they look in my friend’s wedding. 🙂

January Plan

Jan 2 –  Shawls  √√√

Jan 9 –  Shawls  √√√

Jan 16 – Shawls  √√√

Jan 23 – Shawls √√√

Jan 30 – Valentines Props  I finished up the shawls on the 30th and will begin working on props today. 🙂

Already failing

image

3 weeks in and I am already failing. Definitely not doing a great job at updating this blog. In my defense, there isn’t much to say. I have been working on the same project since Christmas, the 6 shawls for my friend’s wedding. Once I have them all completed (I have 4.8 of 6 done currently), I can photograph them and blog about it. However, until them, I am out of material.

I also do not see myself reaching 350 items sold this year. I am already behind the curve for January, and I have changed my plans for the shop. I am staying on finished items only this year. I am going to focus on new product, new designs, new patterns. Plus, I am getting back into my sewing.

My 11 year old and I went and picked out a ton of fabric at JoAnn’s this weekend, as they were having a pretty fantastic sale. So, we spent more money than I had there, and are working on several different skirts, mostly simple designs. We even decided that we needed some extra of one of the fabrics to try and make a couple of dresses. So, I guess that will be a fun chapter to add in here…misadventures in sewing. It has been years and years and years since I did any real sewing. So, we shall see how it all turned out in the end.

On the plus side, the last time I was focused on sewing, YouTube wasn’t a thing yet and I couldn’t spend hours a day watching videos to perfect techniques.

Welcome to 2017!

happy-new-year-2017-wallpaper_16

I am excited for the new year. I have some fairly elaborate plans, and am hoping that things pan out.

As far as goals for 2016, here is where I stand.

150 items in the shop by the end of 2016.
Technically, this has happened, if I reactivated all of my made to order items. However, with the shop on just finished items, ready to ship only, I am under 100.

I managed to sell 295 items last year…my goal was 52…so this year, my goal is to sell 350 items.
246 sales for 270 items. I am a little disappointed that I didn’t hit my goal, but it was super aggressive, and with so many of my sales last year being that shark pattern when it went crazy on Facebook, I am overall pleased with how well I did this year. I made about 10% less this year than I did last year, but I also took a lot more time off than I normally would, with the wedding and a few of the larger custom orders I had.

Attend 5 craft fairs this year.
I only ended up attending 4. I am quite okay with that. I knocked one of them off my list completely, and the other 3 are ones I will continue to attend.

Goals for 2017….

I am not setting an item goal. My focus this year is going to be on introducing new products. I have a big plan laid out that I will share in tomorrow’s post.

Update this blog at least once a week.

Sell 350 items. I am sticking with this one. This one will bring me joy. 🙂

Attend 3 craft fairs. Soka University, Patchwork Santa Ana Spring and Patchwork Santa Ana Fall. I don’t have the time to stock for more than that, and I know that these are good, solid shows.
