Frozen Snowflake Blanket – Free Pattern Review

I tried to queue this up to post at my normal 2pm time, but I couldn’t get wordpress to log me in! It kept telling me the password was wrong, so, I go ahead and change it…only to be told I can’t change it to what I want because that password was “recently used.” Ugh. Anyway, back up and running now!

This project was both the bane of my existence and a glorious success that I love. I despise granny squares. I hate weaving in ends. I hate sewing them together. It is so pretty, but I hate all the effort that must go into them. But, when my friend took on a new foster daughter right before both her 3rd birthday and Christmas, I knew it had to happen. This little girl happens to be Frozen obsessed and the lovely Sarah of RepeatCrafterMe caters to Disney loving babes.

So, following her super simple snowflake granny square pattern, I was able to put together this amazing blanket in just over a week. Now, I imagine those with more than an hour or so a day to dedicate to crocheting could do this faster, but hey, I am a busy lady over here.

I made 49 squares, and the full picture is it lying on the center of my king sized bed. I joined with a single crochet through just one loop for each square, so that the white made a nice ribbing on the front, and a lightly visible connection on the back (see last photo). I used my standard J hook, and worsted weight yarn, more specifically, Lion Brand’s I Love This Yarn.

Sarah, again, knocked it out of the park with this pattern. It is really easy to follow, the squares work up quickly, and the snowflakes would be awesome stand-alone as decorations too!

Mommy and Me

For Mother’s Day this year, my husband decided to book (read, let me book) a fun photoshoot for my younger step-daughter and myself.

The shoot was the last weekend in April, so that the photos would be ready for Mother’s Day. So, we drove down (technically up) to Phoenix Saturday morning, for our Saturday afternoon photoshoot. The incredible Stevie Rosalie dolled us both up, threw in some super cute LilaJo hair flowers, helped us doff our matching Alice in Wonderland outfits from PinupGirl Clothing (my top is from TOBS), we threw on super fluffy petticoats, and then had a blast shooting with Tara O. (And, believe it or not, none of these companies paid me to link them. lol. They are just some of my absolute favorites! Tried, tested, truly amazing!!)

What was really amazing, and totally messed my husband’s world up, was that his little, baby, tiny princess is wearing one of my dresses, my petticoat, my shoes. He was absolutely dumbfounded. She and I went searching her closet and mine to try to find something that matched at least a little. We had originally decided on these super cute Dumbo skirts, but, we couldn’t find tops that worked for both of us. So, on a whim, I decided to have her try on a few of my dresses…and for anything that was high cut in the chest, they worked for her. We have about the same size waist (mine is 1″ bigger than hers), and I have a major shopping problem, so I have several items that I own multiple styles of the same print. So, she narrowed it down to two choices, then I landed on Alice because it was way more fun and colorful than the other one.

Tara was excited to see our outfits, because she never gets to use her yellow backdrop, and was convinced it would really cause everything to pop. And she was right. It all came together and worked out just fantastically!

So, even though I didn’t get to see her for Mother’s Day this year (though I did get a sweet text Sunday and a beautiful card yesterday), I did get to spend it with my older step-daughter and get to sort through these fantastic photos.

This is my husband’s favorite. It is sort of blooper, but he loved it. We were messing around, and Tara does an awesome job of catching really good, candid moments.

Scariest Puppet Ever – Product Review

I have some noble intentions for crochet related posts, I just have no time to make them. So, here is another product review to make you smile. 🙂

My kid is very much that typical, play with it twice and forget it exists sort of kid. So, imagine my happiness and surprise when she fell in love with this puppet that we got her for Christmas. Stacey, from Puppet Pie, is an amazing puppeteer, an incredible puppet designer, and a super sweet lady. So, she had this terrifying puppet in her studio, nightmare scary. And, I knew it would be perfect for my little weirdo. Needless to say, she opens this vampire bunny puppet for Christmas (and man do I wish I still had a photo of how I wrapped it…when she opened the box, it was staring at her!) and danced around the house with it for hours. She brought it to Disneyland a few days later, where she scared Oswald the Lucky Rabbit with it.

She has brought it to Costco, the grocery store, the gas station, the mall, all over the place.

This puppet is amazing. Well constructed, lasts through a lot of rough play, and still super soft.

So, during a trip to Disneyland recently, she decided that Pinky the Vampitt needed to join her. So, Pinky met some princesses, and scared a few of them.

Snow White wasn’t sure what to make of Pinky. She said, “I have lots of little rabbit friends, and none of them are vampires. I am not sure they would like a vampire hanging around.”

This is pretty much my favorite photo ever.

Jasmine actually gasped a little when she met Pinky. She had no idea what to think.

Ariel couldn’t stop laughing. She thought it was the funniest thing she had ever seen.

Here is where Jasmine was trying to convince Pinky that she was her favorite princess. Because, you know, she has a pet tiger, which is like a vampire. 🙂
