Minion Hat

Back in January, a friend of mine asked me to make a minion baby hat for her, for a gift at another friend’s baby shower.

I ended up making 2, because the first one turned out sort of funky. The goggles ended up curling inwards some, so it was like he was being poked in the eye. That hat went into my WOOOPSIES pile, and was donated.

The second one though…I am really excited about it. I just used my standard hat pattern,  added some blank, lined it with blue, and then used circles to make the eyes and goggles. I embroidered the mouth on and voila! All told, it was a very quick, easy project, and I enjoyed it. 🙂 I am considering making one for myself…maybe with a siren on the top!

Bearded Hat – Free Crochet Pattern

A friend of mine asked me to make a bearded baby hat for a girlfriend of hers. So, I went to trusty old Pinterest, and started looking for a pattern. I found this super simple to follow pattern and away I went! The pattern is just for the beard, and the beard took about 20min to make and sew in. The link doesn’t have a beanie pattern, so I just resorted to my favorite, my candy corn beanie.

Overall, this bearded cap took less than an hour and is super cute! The pattern is easy to follow and even has a detailed explaination of how to do a bobble stitch!

Hooded Wolf Cowl – Pattern Review

As I said earlier in the month, I have been working hard on some hooded wolf cowls for a friend of mine. I have always had some issues making hoods, so I decided to start looking for patterns. What I found was a killer pattern for a hooded fox cowl! Well, that’s simple enough, all you have to do is change the ears, and it can be turned into almost any animal. Trust me, that is a project for a little ways down the road. I have so many plans for this pattern. But for now, these wolf cowls are available in the shop!

Well, about the pattern, I absolutely adored this pattern. It was so, so simple to follow. She even included a neat tutorial to help you if you are having problems with the connections! This cowl worked up really quickly. It took me less than 2 hours to make a child sized one, and about 3 hours to adjust it to make an adult sized one. Oh! And did I mention! She even includes instructions on how to adjust it to become a larger size! No one does that anymore! I am so glad for that! Basically, this is one of the coolest, easiest, most fun patterns I have seen in a while. I will definitely be making and reviewing more of her awesome patterns. Just as soon as I have time.

Oh, and the bow came from Repeat Crafter Me. Because apparently, girl wolves have bows. Duh. Everyone knows that.

Baby Wigs (Pattern Review)

So, I have this ridiculously crazy friend that keeps hiring me to make stuff for her and her friends. And, I am so thankful for that, because I need and appreciate the regular patronage. And, it makes me feel fantastic knowing that someone I know well respects my work enough to come to me for their gifts.

So, she came to me with a photo of this absolutely adorable Cabbage Patch baby hat. Seriously. It is the cutest thing ever. She wanted two, one in blonde, one in brunette. So, I discovered the joy that was the loop stitch and made a few hats.

I started by looking at this pattern on repeat crafter me. I really love her patterns and her tutorials. But, I make my hats a little differently…so, after discovering this amazing method of making crochet look furry or fuzzy, I went through my same basic hat pattern that I normally would.

What I didn’t know, and what you should totally check out, is how amazing a loop stitch is. Seriously…I am going to make dogs, bears, alpacas, sheep, all sorts of stuff out of this stitch. It is SOOOOO simple, and the pattern she wrote up has an awesome tutorial to help you, if you struggle to learn new things like I do.

I definitely plan on making more of these. I have just lost all my time in life working on other stuff for this festival. But yea, isn’t it cute? And now I have learned this wickedly awesome loop stitch. And it shall be my happy place.
